After completing a thorough assessment of Blackmore Ltd’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices, we are delighted to have been awarded with a Silver EcoVadis Medal for sustainability performance as we fall within the top 15% of all the global companies assessed. In fact, Blackmore was actually placed in the top 11% of all companies assessed by EcoVadis, so we are well on our way to achieving gold status (top 5%)!
The EcoVadis Silver Medal is one of several environmental accomplishments that we have been working hard to achieve at Blackmore, including recently becoming a Carbon Balanced Printer in partnership with the World Land Trust (only 1% of UK printers have achieved this so far), installing solar panels and switching to renewable energy so that all our print is powered by 100% renewable energy. Continuous and effective management of sustainability practices is critical to our business and society. So EcoVadis is one of the tools that helps us to rate our performance, identify risks and to understand where we can improve and make a bigger impact across the world.
Over 1000 enterprises, from the largest global brands to regional leaders and mid-size companies, use the EcoVadis system to assess and manage sustainability practices within their supply chain. The EcoVadis methodology covers seven management indicators, across 21 sustainability criteria, in four themes: Environment, Labour & human rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. EcoVadis rates performance by assessing a company’s policies, actions and results, as well as inputs from third-party professionals and external stakeholders. To celebrate the completion of the assessment, EcoVadis has planted a tree on Blackmore Ltd’s behalf through their partnership with One Tree Planted.
Andrew Robbins, Managing Director at Blackmore Ltd, said
“We are delighted to have achieved a Silver EcoVadis rating. Many companies require suppliers to be EcoVadis rated, ensuring that they are monitoring their supplier sustainability performance, so we are pleased to officially fall within the EcoVadis-rated category. As a medium-sized print business based in rural Dorset, we are especially pleased to have been placed within the top 11% of global companies who have taken this assessment."
"However, we never rest on our laurels and we have already put in plans to improve on our score further. For example, since the assessment was taken, we have completed the installation of the solar PV system, switched to 100% renewable energy and had our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions validated, with a view to balancing those emissions through the World Land Trust scheme. We have also created a business objective to create a clear route-map with targets to achieve Net Zero by 2030.”
